Resume

This volume brings together the proceedings of the conference dedicated to the architect Henri Deneux, held at the Institut Catholique de Paris – Reims Campus on 29–30 November 2024, to mark the inauguration of the History and Heritage of the Middle Ages | Reims, Champagne Research Chair.

The History and Heritage of the Middle Ages | Reims, Champagne Research Chair at the Institut Catholique de Paris is dedicated to rediscovering, studying, and promoting the outstanding medieval artistic heritage of Reims and the Champagne region. The Chair's inaugural conference focused on Henri Deneux, one of the leading French architects of the twentieth century, whose work played a major role in the reconstruction of Reims' churches following the First World War.

The fourteen contributions gathered in this volume bring together historians, art historians, archaeologists, the Chief Architect for Historic Monuments, museum curators, and archival professionals. This interdisciplinary approach was essential to pay tribute to a man of remarkable versatility—an architect, engineer, art historian, archaeologist, photographer, and painter—whose work left a lasting mark on the preservation and restoration of France's architectural heritage.

This publication is the second volume in the Résonances collection, established by the Faculty of Letters of the Institut Catholique de Paris in collaboration with Éditions Mergoil. The Résonances collection is dedicated to exploring the exchanges and influences between the disciplines of the arts, literature, and the humanities and social sciences. It provides a forum where history, languages, literature, art history, and political science intersect, enrich one another, and are continually redefined through interdisciplinary dialogue.

Each monograph or conference proceedings published in the collection examines the intellectual, cultural, and historical resonances that connect these fields, offering rich and multifaceted perspectives on our world, its cultural heritage, and the contemporary dynamics that shape it.
